Asset and Energy Strategy Manager
Salary Range £43,285 - £52,739 per annum (depending on experience)
Founded in 1753, the British Museum’s remarkable collection spans over two million years of human history. Visitors can travel the world and experience the collections from Africa, Asia, Europe, the Americas and the ancient world, including iconic objects such as the Rosetta Stone, the Parthenon sculptures, the Lewis Chessmen and Egyptian mummies. We receive around six million visitors a year and are the UK’s top visitor attraction. The range of activity is impressive: examples of projects include our tremendously well-received and popular radio series ‘A History of the World in 100 Objects’; an ongoing £135m building project to construct new exhibition spaces, conservation studios and provide high quality storage for the most vulnerable parts of our collection; and a wealth of projects in collaboration with partners locally, nationally and across the globe.
This is a new role that will be responsible for the development and oversight of an effective long-term asset management plan ensuring that programmes of asset replacement – including building fabric, M&E plant & equipment, technical safety/security equipment - are developed in response to risk assessment and organisational need.
In addition, the role will co-ordinate the British Museum’s approach to all aspects of energy management including energy efficiency, reducing carbon dioxide emissions, waste management and sustainable development and the post holder will have responsibility for the development, implementation and maintenance of the British Museum’s energy and carbon strategies and polices.
The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level or equivalent and have a recognised and relevant engineering professional qualification. Previous experience of strategic asset investment planning, energy management and an understanding of sustainability best practise is required. A proven team manager you will have experience of presenting, have good organisational and problem solving skills and ideally have experience of working in a cultural or visitor attraction.
