To work within a development control team within a defined geographical area so as to ensure a consistent approach to development in accordance with good professional practice. To assess applications for planning permission, listed building consent and other related statutory consents and submit reports and recommendations to the Planning Committee or Principal Planning Officer/Planning Control Manager to ensure the control of development in accordance with National Guidance and the Council's planning policies where appropriate.
To write reports and make recommendations in order to ensure consistency and quality, compliance with statutory deadlines and timescales and procedural correctness.
To prepare written statements and Proofs of Evidence and represent the Council at Local Inquiries and Hearings in connection with appeals to the Secretary of State against the Council's refusal of planning permission or other consents.
To advise and direct Enforcement Officer, under the general guidance of the Principal Planning Officer/Planning Control Manager, in order to ensure that breaches of planning control are adequately investigated and acted upon.
To attend Planning Committees and assist the Planning Control Manager/Principal Planning Officer in the presentation of planning applications and giving of professional advice to Members.
To attend public meetings and liaise with Parish Councils, local amenity societies and other groups in order to advise and information the public about planning matters.
To give planning advice in pre-application negotiations to developers, landowners and the general public, both verbally and by letter.
