Out client is a leading light in the Nigerian urban design and landscaping sector, originally founded by Europeans there over 30 years' ago. Success over time has brought them some of the most prestigious commissions in the country and they are currently engaged in providing a range of urban, recreational spaces to many larger towns and cities.
These spaces will generally contain a range of sporting facilities as well as retail and food courts, and will also contain large spaces devoted to hard and soft landscaping. They take an interesting approach to this work, much of which is constructed in pre-fabricated and modular units for later installation. Design work is carried out in the business district of the capital, Abuja, with site locations being typically in Akwa Ibom state. While there is some design to be done, given the nature of pre-fabricated building work , there is much to do surrounding the coordination and installation of the units. Equally, the studio has a developed plant nursery, so a detailed knowledge of tropical plants is of less interest to our client - they want people with experience in the coordination of hard landscaping.
Presently, their expatriate staff is a multi-cultural melting pot of men and women from 8 nationalities and 5 continents, and a multiplicity of professions (architects, landscape architects, horticulturists, green-keepers, civil, mechanical and electrical engineers, land surveyors and quantity surveyors, accountants and administrators). The workforce includes c.30 senior qualified Nigerian technicians, some 100 skilled personnel and a labour force of about 500 semi-skilled workers. With so much experience of recruiting ex-patriate staff over the last three decades, they are most interested in hiring individuals who have not only worked in the UK (and other European countries), but those who have travelled with their work, to often far-flung corners of the world. They work in safe conditions in Nigeria, but equally the developing world can throw up some surprises and those who can demonstrate a natural flexibility to their working patterns, who can adapt to existing conditions, are the ones who are of most interest. Those who have experience of working in Nigeria and West Africa, added to European experiences, will be of special interest.
Apart from being able to work on some of the most high-profile projects occurring in urban Nigeria, these roles also offer a great salary, that will be tax-free. In addition, accommodation will be provided and a monthly allowance given. More company details are available at http://www.edenbrown.com/employers/our-clients/jardin.
We are hoping to conduct the first round of interviews in London on Thur 15/08/13. After the interview process, successful candidates would be flown out to Nigeria for a trial month on a tourist visa, after which they would return to their home countries to decide if they wish to return. Those selected after that stage will then have c.1month to arrange affairs before being flown back to Nigeria to begin work. The expected duration in Nigeria would be c.18-24 months. If you are suitable and interested, please send us your CV ASAP.
