Assistant Planning Officer

Capita is currently looking for an assistant planning officer with a couple of years experience and you must be minimum RTPI qualified. Your role will be to manage a personal caseload of planning applications and manage the planning inbox and provide support to the validation team as required
To manage a personal caseload of all types of applications, including:
o Assessment of the need for planning permission
o Pre-application assessments of planning merits of schemes
o Planning applications, predominantly householder and those considered to be
minor in nature and Prior Notifications
o A caseload of consultancy work, as required
The above will include responsibility for:
o Timely, comprehensive and accurate reports and recommendations on all of the
o Providing advice on planning matters to the public and agents as necessary
To provide support and assistance to colleagues within the Technical Support team as required, including the planning inbox
To keep up to date with current legislation and policy changes.
The precise nature of the work will depend on the post-holder's experience and potential. The job offers excellent experience for a customer focussed enthusiastic and ambitious person aspiring to a career in town planning. On the job training will be undertaken, with the potential opportunity for formal training leading to a recognised Town Planning qualification.

You will be expected to have:
A keen interest in pursuing a town planning career, evidenced either through a
training route or relevant work experience; and progression towards RTPI membership.
A willingness to develop an understanding of planning law and practices;
The ability to make site visits using your own car;
Good verbal and written communication skills;
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel etc);
Good time management skills;
The ability to use your own initiative to solve challenges;
The ability to work flexibly as a team member for the success of the team and the business;
To be able to work under pressure to produce timely and high quality work;
Current clean driving licence
It would be desirable for you to have
Proficiency in Powerpoint
An understanding of planning law especially in regard to the Town and County Planning (General
Permitted Development) order 1995 (as amended)
The successful candidate may be required to pass a Criminal Records Bureau check due to the requirement to make unaccompanied visits to sites and premises.
