Job Type

White is one of Scandinavias leading architect offices with more than 700 co-workers in Sweden, Denmark, Norway and UK. For us, architecture is the framework for sustainable living and well-being.

We focus on people, and go beyond the traditional role of the architect – creating places, urban environments and buildings where people feel and perform better. We apply a truly interdisciplinary approach by combining the best architects in the field with competencies such as anthropologists, engineers, ecological specialists, researchers and artists. The co-workers are shareholders within the company and we have a unique organisation for idea- and knowledge development.

White is a practice driven by a belief that architecture has the power to build communities and make the world a better place to live in a more sustainable way.

Our work is motivated by environmental challenges such as: how do you move an entire city on the brink of subsidence and masterplan it for the future whilst retaining the culture, community and character of the original place; how do you create a hospital environment that functions as a home from home centred on the patient’s well-being; how do you rebuild a neighbourhood uprooted by a hurricane and equip it with resiliency strategies to ensure its survival in the future?

Our research is at the heart of our award-winning projects. It is a strategic tool for the practice and an important vehicle for developing solutions for innovative sustainable architecture across our twelve offices.

The research department is supported by a foundation with six decades of scientific research experience combining academic research with practice oriented development.

We are seeking to appoint a new creative Head of Research and Development to set the strategic direction for our research activities beyond traditional boundaries, disseminate our findings and develop tools for user interaction.

Applicants must be a qualified architect or urban planner with:

  • At least 10 years experience
  • Experience of exploratory research
  • The ideal candidate will have an existing global network in academic organisations and research oriented businesses and be an inspiring and confident public speaker with an ambition to drive the development of sustainable architecture.

Please send us your application before the 31st of January.
