Head of Communications for Architect Practice

This is fantastic opportunity for an experienced Head of Communications to join a busy, award-winning architecture studio. You will be part of the leadership team of the practice, responsible for new business strategy, research and all aspects of communications. This position requires an individual with great initiative, knowledge and experience of architecture, design and the built environment, with excellent communication skills and a keen visual eye.

You will develop the communications and business development strategy, lead the communications and research ensuring that the practices work is articulated and communicated effectively to relevant audiences.

Brief overview of the role:

Strategy and leadership

  • Develop a communications strategy and review regularly with Partners and Associates
  • Lead and line manage the communications team
  • Manage the marketing budget
  • Ensure effective communication internally
  • Contribute to the leadership team

Communications

  • Work with senior staff to develop the practice and project narratives
  • Articulate the practice's strengths and narrative using all relevant tools (written text, imagery, film and drawing)
  • Develop the practice's digital communications tools
  • Plan and lead internal and external events
  • Plan and manage the practice's entries to awards
  • Lead on commissioning of film and photography
  • Oversee the work of the rest of the team
  • Devise and manage the writing, production and distribution of all publications

Bid management, competitions and new business

  • Lead the new business strategy
  • Work with bid manager on new opportunities

Client and contact relations

  • Lead on external relations, including contacts, press and clients' PRs
  • Develop strategies, with partners, for important contacts and potential clients
  • Working with office manager, ensure contact database is up to date

Press and media

  • Ensure the practice maintains a profile in the UK and international media
  • Decide on project priorities for press
  • Ensure press and media list is up to date
  • Develop and maintain good relations with leading editors + journalists
  • Identify opportunities for partners to raise their profiles

Branding and design

  • Develop and maintain the practice brand and graphic identity, as it is represented on all communications platforms
  • Oversee the work of the Senior graphic designer
  • Advise on the use and appointment of consultant graphic designers and illustrators for projects where required
