Director of Architecture
A large firm of multi discipline construction and engineering consultants in Kuwait currently seeks a Director of Architecture to head up the design department. You will be directly responsible for around 15 people with indirect responsibility for a further 25 people. You will maintain oversight of different projects, review and ensure quality of design developments and final designs whilst ensuring adherence to deadlines, budgets, quality requirements and contract obligations in order to fulfill client requirements. You will assist the Technical Manager and company management in formulating plans to guide the future operations of the Architecture and Design Department, you will review and approve the design developments and final design drawings for various projects, you will advise Senior Architects, Project Managers and Resident Engineering on local regulations, materials and their applications, you will resolve queries raised on projects under construction and liaise with material & equipment suppliers for technical and installation information as and when required. Participate with management in preparing proposals by assisting the Head Proposals in defining project scope, exclusions, project risks, initial schedule, estimation for man-hours, direct costs, profit margin etc. Coordinate effectively with Architects and Engineers throughout project lifecycles (planning, concept, preliminary, final etc.), review and understand their drawings and specifications to ensure that adequate provisions in their designs are made based on architectural designs, advise the QS Department in preparing the BoQs in line with project requirements and specifications, interact with clients and other professionals, assist the Deputy GM with carrying out any other activities etc. You should be a Chartered Architect with proven track record in managing staff and be experienced in managing an architectural department. You should have 15 years or more experience as a Lead Design Architect and any previous experience of working previously in Kuwait would be preferred or to have other Middle East experience in a similar level role.
